Image of Mariah ShaeferA native Houstonian, Mariah Schaefer is currently employed as a Paralegal in the Firm’s Immigration and Labor and Employment law divisions. Ms. Schaefer currently supports the Firm’s litigation cases in the Texas courts, Federal and Immigration courts. Prior to joining Deason Law, Ms. Schaefer developed several years of experience in Immigration Law in the fields of deportation and removal, family-based immigration petitions and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) cases. Ms. Schaefer also has additional experience in Family Law, including Suits Affecting Parent and Child Relationships (SAPCR), Declaratory Judgments, Divorce proceedings, Adoptions, and Paternity.

Representative Experience

  • Assist attorneys in removal proceedings by attending hearings, preparing bond packets, and preparing application for relief, such as asylum applications and cancellation of removal.
  • Preparation of I-601A and I-601 waivers to support family-based immigration cases.
  • Preparation of VAWA or SIJS Applications for submission to U.S.C.I.S.
  • Act as a Spanish interpreter for asylum and residency interviews with U.S.C.I.S.
  • Visit detainees in detention to prepare them for Credible or Reasonable Fear interviews with Immigration Officer.
  • Preparation of Statement of Positions for submission to the EEOC to respond to charges of discrimination that have been filed against employers.
  • Prepare and submit all other State Court filings, including Petitions, Motions, Summary Judgments, and Final Orders.
